The past thirty years have been spent working in many aspects of building design, construction and in particular, Project Management. My work experience ranges from being a Junior in an Architectural firm to manufacturing engineered timber roof trusses, designing and drawing up full working drawings, on site supervision and for the past 15 years, Practical Project Management, from conception to completion, of a wide variety of contracts covering housing, commercial, retail, warehousing, office accommodation and health centres.
Being Architecturally trained and qualified, I have put my practical experiences to good use, translating an Architects design into layman’s terms. I have worked with construction methods and materials ranging from traditional brick and block to timber frame, steel framing, polystyrene blocks, Spaceframe and the German TEKHAUS systems.
I am passionate about proper planning and co-ordinating the input from all the design team, architects, engineers, and specialist sub-contractors, checking on the practicalities of the design and usability/practicalities of the structure for the occupier, ensuring that the site team and sub contractors fully understand the construction methods and materials that will be used and to ensure that the original concept is planned right the first time so that it’s execution proceeds unhindered.
I am now collaborating with Dr Van Der Merwe, who, though based in South Africa, has shown his willingness to join me in this quest, to make Practical Project Management training available to all, no matter what projects they may have to manage.
